Mark Ripley Antiques and Forge
The Fireplace People (established 1920).

Mark Ripley Antiques and Forge is a family run business which has been established for over half a century. We specialise in furnishing all sizes of fireplaces from a modest cottage fire to a vast Inglenook. Firebacks are reproduced from our own personal collection of over 150 mostly original 17th to 19th Century patterns, all of which are on display for the customer to choose from.

Heavy quality iron firebaskets are handforged in our own forge on the premises, in sizes to individual specification, and are made both free standing or as cradle baskets to sit on any of the 40 firedog patterns on display. Many of the cast-iron firedogs are reproduced from the original l6th to 18th Century patterns. Canopies are constructed in steel or copper in plain or hammered finish, and accessories include fire irons, firescreens, companion sets, chestnut roasters, craftsman made English hide bellows, martingales, and much more. Our extensive showroom features built in Inglenook fireplaces complete with canopies and all the fittings, and every item is manufactured to each customer's individual requirements.

A large selection of reproduction period cast-iron baskets are also on display, together with a working log and coal effect fire. These fires are aerated units which combine maximum heat output and efficiency with the pleasing effect of an open fire, and are custom made to fit any basket.

The company will also make site visits within a reasonable area to advise on the fitting out of fireplaces and to assist with taking any dimensions necessary to the supplying of canopies, etc.

We have on display a range of top quality reproduction Victorian fires - hob grate style, classical, or tiled inserts, with a superb choice of tiles. These fires are available with a range of craftsman made pine, mahogany, or oak surrounds, with marble or slate hearths. An extensive range of wood or solid fuel stoves are supplied - Scandia, Stovax and Coalbrookdale among these.

Other quality items manufactured or supplied include iron interior wall lights. reproduction Victorian street lanterns and posts, house name plaques and garden iron work - beautiful decorative wrought iron well covers, arches, weathervanes, fencing and gates.

Also on the premises is a unique
museum of Rural Life, featuring a host of nostalgic items of yesteryear
